Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to reorganize itself through repeated experiences, behaviors, emotions, and thoughts.

in simple words, humans become what they repeatedly rehearse.

And fashion, interestingly, is one of the most repetitive forms of self expression people engage with daily.

Pop culture has been exploring this forever.

Andy Sachs from The Devil Wears Prada didn’t just have a physical glow up, but a mental one as well. Notice how, after her transformation, she became better at her work (even better than Emily)

Or think about Legally Blonde.

The entire movie revolves around everyone underestimating Elle Woods because of her femininity. But that fashion and femininity gave her the confidence to go to law school and win a case against her professor.

Fashion usually gets dismissed because people think they are “too cool to care about what they wear.” But humans are visual creatures, and we communicate identity before we explain it verbally.

Neuroplasticity reminds us that identity is adaptable.
Fashion reminds us that identity is embodied.

If we go by society’s standards, she is the chill girl, the effortless girl, the woman who supposedly does not do much yet somehow looks impossibly stylish, beautiful and put together.

In fashion terms, she is the girl who “doesn’t try too hard.”

Ironically, being a cool girl requires more effort than whatever the opposite of a cool girl is.

Because the truth is: there was never really a cool girl. There was only a carefully constructed fantasy designed to look natural.

The emotional labour this archetype brought with it is difficult to describe.

Women were expected to look attractive all the time, but not too attractive. Heavy makeup meant you were “trying too hard.” Caring deeply about fashion, beauty or your appearance often became something to downplay or joke about.

The cool girl had to master the art of looking polished while pretending she did nothing at all.

Phrases like “I just threw this on.”
“This is how I woke up.” became pretty common.

As a woman, I know one thing for certain: nobody is waking up with perfectly undone waves and zero frizz. And no woman truly “just threw this on.” Maybe it took five minutes, maybe thirty, but at least some thought was given to the outfit.

And honestly? That should not be embarrassing.

The cool girl also quietly drained colour from fashion.

Neutral palettes became the visual language of effortlessness — beige, black, grey, muted tones. Beautiful, yes. I love them too.

But fashion gave us an entire spectrum of colour. Why should wearing pink with orange or yellow with red suddenly feel like breaking a rule?

Thankfully, something is shifting.

People are beginning to follow their own taste instead of blindly following influencers.

And maybe that is the real death of the cool girl.

In 2026, managing money is no longer just about mathematics — it feels like psychological survival.

This generation spends differently from previous ones because modern expenses look different. Earlier, budgeting mostly revolved around groceries, electricity, rent and occasional purchases. Today, expenses are layered into everyday life so subtly that they almost feel invisible: platform memberships, convenience fees, streaming services, app renewals, delivery charges and impulse purchases disguised as self-care.

A ₹99 fee does not feel financially dangerous in the moment. Neither does a ₹299 subscription. But modern spending is built on accumulation. Small digital transactions slowly become lifestyle patterns.

And then comes the pressure of lifestyle visibility.

In 2026, people are constantly exposed to how other love. Social media becomes a constant reminder of what you could be or how your life should look like.

Budgeting becomes emotionally exhausting when consumption is tied to identity.

At the same time, income itself has become unstable. Many young people today are freelancing, interning, building personal brands, working contract jobs or depending on inconsistent opportunities from the creator economy. It is difficult to maintain financial structure when income changes every month.

Inflation only intensifies the pressure. Essentials continue becoming more expensive while salaries often fail to grow at the same pace.

But perhaps the biggest problem is this: most people were never realistically taught how to manage money in the world they actually live in.

Traditional budgeting advice often ignores modern realities. It assumes stable income, predictable expenses and limited exposure to consumer culture. But today’s financial environment is designed to encourage constant spending, constant comparison and constant upgrading.

Maybe the conversation around budgeting needs to evolve.

Not into extreme restriction but into systems that are flexible, sustainable and realistic for modern lifestyles.

Because in 2026, managing money is not only about discipline. It is an amalgamation of inflation, digital and modern consumerism, psychological fatigue and constantly shifting lifestyles.

Suddenly on a random morning, I’d wake up prettier, wiser, more interesting, living the life I saw in fashion movies and like the women I admired from afar.

My dreams were stitched together from little things -

•Sound of heels

•Lipstick marks

•Fashion magazines and runway clips.

The young girl dreamed in aesthetics.

I wanted my future to look like movies.

I wanted to walk in rooms “Miranda” style.

and somehow……I became her ( with all my flaws and chaos )

I became the girl who talks about fashion like it’s second nature.

The girl who sees inspiration everywhere-

in movies, editorials, history, sports and in girls rushing through life in messy buns.

My younger self thought success would feel loud.

But becoming her felt quiet.

It looked like trusting my own taste.

Posting despite fear.

Creating despite doubt.

Starting before feeling ready.

And maybe that’s what growing up really is-

Not transforming into a new person,  but slowly becoming someone your younger self would look up to-

for trying, for finding her own path, for figuring out on her on.

I think little versions of us always leave clues behind:

•In the things we were drawn to

•The lives we romanticised

•The dreams we repeated over and over without realising they were becoming plans.

And now sometimes, when I’m creating, styling, writing, dreaming bigger than before, I catch myself thinking-

“ I grew up and became the girl I always wanted to be”
